Royal seal of approval for state-of-the-art new Pinderfields Hospital
The state-of-the-art new Pinderfields Hospital was given the royal seal of approval when it was officially opened by Princess Anne (Tuesday 13 September 2011).
HRH The Princess Royal visited the new hospital, which started to open in June 2010 and fully opened in March this year, to tour the state-of-the-art facilities and meet with staff and patients. She also unveiled a plaque marking the opening of the new building.
Ed Anderson, Chairman, and Julia Squire, Chief Executive, at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We are delighted that HRH The Princess Royal has officially opened our new Pinderfields Hospital and got to meet some of our dedicated staff and partners who have worked so hard to make our new hospital a reality.
“In the new building, we are providing high quality care in new state-of-the-art facilities which have been designed around our patients’ needs and include the latest technology and equipment. We are pleased that the Princess met with some of our patients and heard first-hand about how their care and experience is improving in what are some of the best hospital facilities in the country.
“We would also like to thank our staff and partners for all the hard work that has gone into developing our new hospital.”
The first services at Pinderfields Hospital opened in June 2010 and included the new Children’s Centre and the Rehabilitation Department for Physiotherapy andOccupational therapy as well as other outpatient services.
The final services moved into the new hospital in February/March this year including the new Adults and Children’s Emergency Departments and the new Children’s Ward. For the first time ever, the hospital now has a Consultant-led Maternity Unit as well as housing the Neonatal Intensive and High Dependency, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Children’s Inpatient Surgery specialist centres for the whole of Wakefield and North Kirklees.
Along with the new Pontefract Hospital, which was officially opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester in July 2010, the new hospitals are the single largest investment in local healthcare since the NHS was first set up. Alongside the excellent modern hospital in Dewsbury, these fantastic new buildings are transforming local patient care.
